A spectacular specimen recently acquired from a meticulous Southern California enthusiast, this #15 of 18 very special "factory hot rods" built for the 2001 model year only is elegantly finished in Silver Pearl with unmarked Black hides.
These limited production automobiles are still regarded by many including ourselves as the finest road car yet produced by the company. Their $328,000 base price included the wider Continental "T" derived wheel arches to accomodate wider 18" wheels shod with special low profile Pirelli tires developed for this model, chrome shift gate with unique "420" handle, drillled alloy pedals, Continental' T" dashboard seven gauge dashboard layout with starter pushbutton and more. The engines were reportedly "tweaked" for a real output closer to 450BHP rather than the 420 specified and the performance is markedly different from other supposedly identically engined models.
Each of the 18 was specially commissioned and optioned to suit. This example is equipped with veneer surrounds to the seat controls, veneer door panels, wrap over veneered waistrails with stainless winged "B" logo inserts, black exterior badging, chrome alloy wheels, personalized tread plates, stainless headlamp surrounds, chrome grille shell, twin Bentley umbrellas to the inside trunk lid, battery tender, genuine twin exhaust system and more. The actual MSRP for this car was likely in the $360,000 plus range.
The mechanical and cosmetic condition is as close to new as anyone could reasonably expect in light of age. The original lambswool overlay rugs are in virtually unused condition as a second set of carpet overlays embroidered with the Bentley logo are protecting the original floor covering. |
